This is abbreviated as OCS Gen5 (pronounced ox jen five), the fifth generation (5th version) of RJ45-connectored optical cable, designed to use in place of regular copper-based Ethernet cables (Cat., 6, 7,8 and later versions). It is composed of a pair of O/E transceivers, A and B, a length of GI-POF optical cable (standard 6 meters, with option length of 1 m to 1,000 m), The system’s designed max speed is limited by A and B transceivers designed maximum speed of 1,000 Mbps (~1Gbps), with operating wavelengths of 1310nm and 1550nm (same as typical glass optical fibers). Transceiver A or B is equipped with a small length of RJ45-connectored cable, so the whole cable system is used in the same manner as a regular capper-based Ethernet cable, but with much desired improvements in properties.
